Words and Music

When I decided I wanted to start a blog, I obviously wanted something other than "Misty's blog." Where's the fun in that? Friends have blogs with titles "Life is great with Kate" and "Put on Love" ... I needed something! As any good wife would do, I went to the one with the brains.

... and as any good wife would do, I informed my better half how lame his 20+ ideas were. (After all, he's the music, I'm the words.)

Some of his ideas included:
  • "BOOM! It's Misty!"
  • "You can be a pork chop" [this one is known as a "Misty version" song. More on that at a later date.]
  • "It's Misty Time"
  • "Misty Mania"
  • "Welcome to Mistyland"
  • "The Mistyest of the Mistys"
  • "Tales of a Tennessee Transplant"
  • "Dispatches from the Richards home"
I'll give him some credit for the Tennessee Transplant one. And with that, I was worn out with Mistyisms and realized I was on my own. A cute little song by Norwegian singer-songwriter and guitarist Sondre Lerche called "Words & Music" has been in my head lately. Matt loves the song, so of course I've heard it a ton of times. The song talks about how well two people fit together, with one being "a poem when you're on your own" and how "when we get together we're a song."

I wanted my blog to be more than just about Misty but also about the words and music that make up the song of our lives. Matt and I fit together like two puzzle pieces, so I thought this would be most appropriate. Even though in the song, the couple takes turns being either words or music, I decided for the purpose of my blog, that I'm the words and Matt is the music.

Though we both are into writing, literature, music, etc., he's the musician between the two of us, and I'm the writer. If you know Matt, then you know just how he really is THE music. We can't go anywhere or do anything without him noticing what songs are currently playing at the store, restaurant, wherever. As for the words, well, I'm the one putting them on here.

You can view a video of the song here:

One more thing ... Matt wanted to include this song in our wedding, but I vetoed it on the grounds that it's a little too peppy for a wedding ceremony. I guess this helps me score some points back with him.
